Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe extended his greetings to Prince William and his wife Catherine Middleton as the news of the royal couple’s first child was announced on Monday, London time. On July 22 at 4:24 PM, the Duchess of Cambridge has “delivered of a son,” as posted on the easel said to be the same one used at the announcement of Prince William’s birth. The yet to be named royal baby is now third in line to the throne of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was born at the Lindo Wing in St. Mary’s Hospital in London. It was the same hospital where Princess Diana gave birth to Prince William and Prince Harry. At six in the morning on Monday, still London time, Kate Middleton was brought to the hospital together with Prince William, who had stayed with her from labour until delivery. Although not posted on the easel, the royal baby weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces at birth. Kate and the baby are also said to be “both doing well.”

In a press release at the Kensington Palace, “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.” Prince Charles, now “enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather” also expressed his eagerness to see his grandson.

The royal son’s birth was announced to the public at the forecourt of the Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the royal family of Britain. No name has been given and announced yet as it still needs the approval of Queen Elizabeth, but the baby shall be addressed as the Prince of Cambridge. Like the title of his father, Duke of Cambridge, ‘Prince of Cambridge’ has also been not in used for more than a century. At the birth of the Prince of Cambridge, his uncle Prince Harry of Wales is now fourth in line to the British throne.
